2014 'COURY' Semillon
The 2014 vintage allowed us to make a classic style of sémillon. For fans of white bordeaux wines, our 2014 will surely be familiar. Lanolin? Check. Beeswax? Check. Lemon Zest? Check. With healthier fruit we were able to extend our skin contact to 50hrs allowing for a wine with more weight and texture, without using large portions of new oak.
On Point, Aging Well
There are many philosophies on winemaking. We believe in letting Mother Nature dictate the style of wine that we are able to make. With healthy Spring rains and a warm and consistent Summer, the 2014 vintage allowed a conscious farmer to hang a little more fruit without loosing any quality. After a challenging 2013 vintage where many clusters were lost due to powdery mildew, this vintage was a gift. Our 2014 has a more fruity, oily, waxy, and rich texture than our 2013. This reminds us of better quality White Bordeaux examples from Graves. In fact, when I was tasting the 2012 Chateau Auney l'Hermitage 'Cuveé Cana' Blanc, I was struck by the similarities. Of course, wine isn't really made by the winemaker, rather it is made in the vineyard. In my opinion, it takes healthy grapes, special soils, old vines, and humility to make quality wine.
